Where is the island located?

The island is located in Orivesi, 60 km from Tampere (1 h drive) and 200 km from Helsinki (2,5 h drive). You will receive the exact location and directions together with your booking confirmation. We want to preserve the privacy of the place, and for this reason we do not share the location publicly. Please contact us for transportation arrangements if needed.

Can we rent the whole resort?

Yes, the whole resort is rented privately only for you, but hosts' cabin is not included. There are one or two hosts on the island. There are no other tourists on the resort. The island is owned by a Finnish family, and its members serve as hosts.

 

Is it suitable for families?

Yes, it is ideal for small families. The lakeside lodge accommodates two adults in a 160 cm wide double bed and 1 small children. The glamping tent has two 200x80 cm beds and there is also space for two travel beds for children. A baby bed is available upon request.
The lake has a sandy bottom and is child-friendly, with shallow water extending far from the shore. Children love being on the island, where they can swim in the clear water or build a hut in the woods. Even the tiniest babies are welcome.

How much does it cost?
Prices vary depending on the season. Please check the prices in our booking system. The price always includes all meals and the activities listed separately, as well as accommodations and boat transportation.

What does the island experience include?
It includes accommodation either in the lakeside lodge or the glamping tent. You are free to choose which one you would like to stay in. Bed linens, towels, and bathrobes are also included. The price includes full board (all meals, bottled water and local drinks are also included.) Alcohol is not included. Island activities such as sauna, SUP boarding, rowing, kayaking, canoeing are freely available for guests throughout their stay. The package also includes support from your hosts and guidance on everything you'd like to experience on the island. 

 

What is the hosts’ role on the island?
One or two hosts are always nearby to ensure a smooth and authentic stay, while giving you the freedom to enjoy the island with as much privacy as you wish. They serve traditional food, heat the sauna for you, and guide you through the island’s activities. If you like, they will also introduce you to Finnish cottage culture. Think of it as your Finnish friend inviting you to spend your holiday on their private island. The hosts’ mission is to create a unique, memorable, and authentic Finnish experience for you. If you wish, you can also participate in activities such as heating the sauna or chopping firewood yourself.

 

 

What should we bring to the island?
In short: you only need spare clothes and enthusiasm to experience authentic Finnish island life! Be sure to pack clothes appropriate for the weather, a swimsuit, and sunscreen. You can bring some of your own snacks if you’d like, but you won’t need anything else, since all the meals are included in your experience.

 

What is the weather like on the island?
The Finnish summer can be unpredictable. Sometimes it is pleasantly warm, and sometimes a refreshing summer rain brightens the day, but the island offers the perfect setting to enjoy every kind of weather.

 

Are there dangerous animals such as snakes on the island?
There are no dangerous animals on the island, and snakes have never been spotted there. The island is full of birds, and you can relax in a hammock listening to their beautiful songs. On the lake you may see ducks, geese, and a swan couple that enjoys spending the summer around our island.

 

Is the island safe?
Yes. Life jackets are always used while boating, and all hosts have completed first aid training. The beach is safe and shallow, and natural disasters are rare in Finland. Since the hosts are always on the island during your stay, they’ll also take care of your safety. 

 

Is electricity available on the island?
The island has solar panels, so charging your phone or camera is possible.

 

Is there running water on the island?
The island has a water pump that provides running water for the sauna and kitchen. This makes washing up a pleasant and smooth experience.

 

Is drinking water available on the island?
We filter clean lake water with a high-quality water filtration system to produce drinking water. Bottled water is also available. 

 

Where can we wash ourselves?
The traditional way to wash on the island is in the sauna. We heat water in a large cauldron, mix it to a comfortable temperature, pour it with a ladle, and rinse ourselves with fresh lake water. Washing your hair with lake water leaves it wonderfully soft!

 

How does the sauna experience work?
The traditional wood-heated sauna is available whenever you want. You may enjoy the sauna privately or the island host can guide you through the traditions of Finnish sauna culture.
You may wear swimwear in the sauna, or enjoy it the traditional Finnish way - without clothes.

 

How do we get to the island?
Transportation to the island is by motorboat, with a journey of about 1 km. The trip takes only a few minutes, and we provide life jackets for all our guests. Car transportation example from Tampere or Helsinki can also be arranged for an additional fee.

 

How do you accommodate special diets?
Before your arrival, we ask about any dietary requirements and take them into account when preparing meals.

 

We noticed dogs in the photos. Are they always on the island?
Before your arrival, we will ask whether you would like our small and friendly dogs to be present. If you do not like dogs or are allergic, the dogs will not be on the island during your visit.

 

Is the Small Private Island included in the package?
The Small Private Island is not included in the package, but it can be booked separately if available.
